'The Arena of Artifice'
(Working title)
For a little while I've been working on this video game using the RPGmaker software, loosely inspired by the medieval Hekhalot and Merkavah traditions of mystical literature, which describe the process of 'descending' into heaven alive to witness God and the heavenly beings surrounding him.
In it, you will explore multiple 'lower realms', meeting the beings that reside there and uncovering the secrets of the seven principle spirits ruling over each realm.

All the characters and backgrounds are hand drawn, or claymation using sprite sheets for animation.
Elements so far:
Artificers
You start the game by waking up in the 'Arena of Artifice', a realm of white sand at the edges of existence, populated by the Artificers; beings who crawled out of the Mare Vanitatis (the sea of nothing/sea of vanity), to play among the shadows cast by the movement - the material universe.
Homunculi
Little creatures created by the Artificers as a facsimile of sapient life. In the lower realms, their power is muted, but they are formed from the artful earth of the Arena, and if they were to ascend to the movement, they would have godlike power.
Doctors
There are two doctor-spirits inhabiting a sub-realm that can be accessed from every other lower realm; the Flesh Doctor and the Humour Specialist. The Flesh Doctor is there to help with Torment, the physical pain caused to your meat-body, while the Humour Specialist can help you get to grips with the four mysterious bodily fluids that control your character's decision making - 'Gall', 'Head water', 'Gut water', and 'Ectus'.
Thought Tree
Also in the medical realm you can find the thought tree, which helps you with your mental processing by inserting it's root like tendrils under the skin of your scalp and stimulating parts of your brain, helping you reach conclusions about quest lines and ushering you in the right direction if you aren't sure where to go.
